ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- Just over a year ago Alex Bregman was drafted #2 overall in the MLB Draft, and after a stellar performance in the minor league system, Bregman will make his MLB debut with the Astros on Monday night.

“The amount of pride is unbelievable and it’s because I know how hard Alex has worked since the day he was born. Since the day he was born he has one singular dream and that is to play in the major leagues and he is living that dream”, said Alex Bregman’s father Sam Bregman.

While in the minors, Bregman held a .300 batting average, and hit 24 HR’s. It wasn’t a question of if, but when would Alex get brought up to the MLB club.

“We feel like this is a good time to add him to a good team. We are rolling along pretty well and he doesn’t have to come up here and be anything that but himself. We feel like his time is now to come up and add whatever he can, and not carry the weight of the world on his shoulders as a young player”, said Astros Manager A.J. Hinch at a press conference today.

This is a lifelong dream for Alex Bregman, and it shows that all the hard work that he has put in has paid off.

“8 years old, 9 years old, he had real good hand eye coordination, but I never realized that he’d have a shot at doing this until you watched him in high school and saw his work ethic. All the other kids were out, maybe hanging out with their buddies going to the movies. Alex was out playing ball and was in the cage working”, said Sam Bregman.

Alex will make his MLB debut on Monday night in Houston, as the Astros take on the Yankees at 6:05 pm MST.
