ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – When thinking about how she got involved in combat sports UFC fighter Holly Holm remembers high school and an aerobics class.

“I lived in Bosque Farms and we drove all the way to Manzano for high school,” said Holm. In from going to Manzano is when I found myself going to Winkeljohn’s kickboxing for aerobics. I think if I don’t go to Manzano for high school where would my life be right now.” She did go and right now Holm is a well known MMA Fighter and former world champion boxer preparing to make her UFC debut.

Holm tried other sports before her first adventure into combat sports. She tried soccer and swimming. Holm even was a gymnast for a period of her life. Back in 2002 Holm said gymnastics was just a little to girlie. After starting a kickboxing career it wasn’t long before Holm dropped the kicks and became a full time boxer. She made a good choice, becoming a world champion with a 33-2-3 record. In 2011 Holm started MMA fighting part time. Three years later she decided to put away the sweet science and jump into MMA full time.

While announcing her retirement from boxing Holm said,”I always wanted to just fight for the passion in my heart and I feel like my passion is going to MMA”. Holm has since put together a 7-0 MMA record and also picked up a Legacy FC title along the way. Her combat career will start another chapter Saturday.
