ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Holly Holm is back from her UFC debut in Los Angeles over the weekend. The former world boxing champion taught her kickboxing class Monday, but not before receiving a hero’s welcome.
Holm picked up a sore throat on the morning of her fight against Raquel Pennington. She was determined not to let it stop her from showing up to fight in front of the biggest crowd Holm has performed in front of.
“I just focused on looking at the cage”, said Holm. “I didn’t want to look at the crowd. I didn’t want to get to overwhelmed when I was getting in there. I didn’t even look around until the fight was over. When the fight was over I looked around and said wow. I just fought in front of all these people. This was awesome”.
Holm’s split decision victory is just the start of what she hopes is a busy year. UFC champion Ronda Rousey said after her win that she would like to face a striker like Holm.
“I don’t think that is going to be the next fight and I don’t know exactly when my next fight will be but, we’re hoping soon”, said Holm. “I want to get right back into training and I am perfectly healthy. I don’t have any injuries from the fights”.
