ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New University of New Mexico women’s basketball coach, Mike Bradbury, has completed his staff with a former Aggie.

Aarika Hughes spent the last five seasons at New Mexico State as an assistant under Mark Trakh, helping the Aggies double their win total.

When talking about her new position Hughes said, “I am so excited to embark on this new journey under coach Mike Bradbury.”

Bradbury believes he has a solid addition to his staff in Hughes. “Her wealth of Division I knowledge, enthusiasm and youth will be a great help in developing our Lobo players,” said Bradbury. “She also brings a great deal of recruiting experience that will help our program.”

At New Mexico State, Hughes was a part of a staff that guided the Aggies to a WAC regular season title and conference tournament title.

The Aggies also made the NCAA tournament for the first time in 27 years during the 2014-15 season. Hughes hopes to be just as productive at New Mexico.

“Everyone I have met, including the team, has been wonderful,” said Hughes. “I am looking forward to getting to know everyone on and off the floor. This school has such great tradition and I am proud to be a part of it.”
