ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- The Volcano Vista Hawks football team is coming off of a 68-21 victory over Atrisco Heritage in week 5 of the High School season. The Hawks are now 4-1 in 2016 with some huge numbers coming out of this game with the Jaguars.

The stats that jump out at you the most are from senior quarterback Dillon Gassoway.

“I had 7 touchdowns, 7 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. I was in the zone I mean I kind of wanted to get out of there real quick,” said Dillon Gassoway. He was 16-22 in passing with 447 yards and 7 touchdowns in the air and 1 on the ground.

He found 3 different receivers in that game on Friday night, but linked up 3 times with his go-to guy Daniel Cormier.

“They definitely have a little connection going, you know David is Dillon’s security blanket,” said VVHS Head Coach Chad Wallin. “It’s amazing I can just throw the ball up and he will just go up and get it. We have a great connection, I mean we always look at each other for hot routes and stuff, but I mean it just goes,” said Dillon Gassoway.

It’s definitely a dynamic duo kind of like Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison, or Joe Montana and Jerry Rice, and it just seems fitting that Gassoway’s favorite QB of all time and a guy that he emulates on the field is in fact Joe Montana.

Expect big numbers here on out from this Volcano Vista team that has yet to score under 35 points in 2016. They will take on Highland next on Friday at Nusenda Community Stadium game time 7 pm.
