ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Avengers are the only all women’s tackle football team in Albuquerque. They are in their inaugural year of the IWFL.
As of now they are 0-2 on the season, but they hope that can change on their home opener this Saturday at 5 p.m.
“I mean of course we are women but its women on women, just like when its men on men so, it’s definitely good competition,” said Avengers Center/LB Kylee Kipp.
This team is a tough group of women that is made up of mothers, students and even law enforcement. The game of football has brought them all together, and they have built a family type bond.
“We all have each other’s backs like nobody’s business and I have never experienced that even in blood family. I mean, I go anywhere as a quarterback and I guarantee all the ladies behind me will have my back,” said Avengers QB Kassie Nutter.
The Avengers play Saturday at 5 p.m. at Highland High School.
The Avengers have only been together for 4 months now, so they have paid for pads, travel expenses and league costs out of pocket. They have a go fund me set up on their website.
Also if you are interested in playing for the Avengers, check out their website as they are still recruiting players.
