ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The up and down season for Lobos basketball has also become scary for one player. Craig Neal says his son, Lobos sophomore guard Cullen Neal, has received death threats and has had to change his phone number twice and shutdown his Facebook and Twitter page.
“It’s not fair that you get threats and death threats. It’s not right. Does it affect him. I think that kind of answers your question.” Coach expected his son to face some criticism but, not for it to cross the line. Cullen has had a roller coaster year after starting out as one of the Lobos top scorers.
His flashy style and being the coaches son has always made him a lightning rod for criticism. Cullen is fourth in assists in the Mountain West, averaging a little over 4 per game. Coach Neal says the criticism is not only affecting Cullen but, the whole team appears to be tired of it.
They have banded together to support Cullen through the tough times. Coach Neal is also worried about the whole situation affecting recruiting.
