ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)- The 1-2 Lobo football team will start conference play, after a bye week, on Saturday against San Jose State. It will be the team’s homecoming game at University stadium with a 2 p.m. kick off.

The Lobos will be down starting QB Austin Apodaca, who is still nursing a hurt right shoulder. But stepping in to fill that spot is last year’s starting QB Lamar Jordan.

“You know he started, he got replaced, he came back and alternated against Rutgers and now he has come full circle where he is the guy again,” said UNM Head Football Coach Bob Davie.

“See I am going to work like I am the third string you know like I am trying to get to the front, but like I said I am trying to do whatever I can to get this team in the best situation to win. I train like I am the backup, so when you are the backup you have to do everything right,” said UNM QB Lamar Jordan.

The team has been successful with Jordan under center, and this team will also be rejuvenated on Saturday as their captain of the defense will be back after taking a week off due to concussion protocol.

“We need to start off right and just understand that we need to be confident in what we are doing and everyone needs to buy in to the scheme and everything that we need to do out here to win this game,” said Dakota Cox.

Once again SJSU vs UNM is Saturday October 1st at 2 p.m.
