ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – In New Mexico the high school State Golf Championships usually run during the same week of graduation. That has at least one parent concerned. He says high school seniors playing in the tournament have to chose whether to walk with their graduating class or compete with their team.

“All the kids would like to walk, all the parents would like their kids to walk, and its impossible with the current set up,” said parent Dale Bohannon.

New Mexico Activities Association Associate Director Dusty Young said his organization tries to work with all the member institutions on dates.

“We try and put out a calendar in advance,” said Young. “It allows our schools to schedule their events accordingly, but its impossible when you have five different sports and 170 schools. There is always going to be a conflict here and there. We try and avoid those as much as possible, but each year it does seem that there is gonna be at least one issue with one of our state championships in the spring.”
