ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Lobos are looking to end the eight-game losing streak on Saturday against Wyoming. It is the last regular season game of the year, and also senior night. Seniors Deshawn Delaney and Hugh Greenwood will walk that ramp one more time.
“It’s going to be an emotional time that’s for sure, walking up and down the ramp for the last time,” said Greenwood.
“It’s going to be fun, and kind of sad at the same time,” said Delaney.
Delaney became a Lobo last season and really proved himself with his athletic style of play in the Mountain West Tournament. He is averaging 12.1 points per game this year, and he also has led the team in points in 11 games this year. Delaney is happy he chose UNM for basketball, but it is a dream come true getting his degree as a Lobo.
“I never even thought I would graduate from high school. To get a college degree is awesome, man. It’s a dream come true,” said Delaney.
Hugh Greenwood is a four-year starter for the Lobos, and one of the most highly praised players by the fans. Saturday will be his 125th career start and his 58th game at the Pit. Greenwood hopes his team wins out the rest of the games this year, and the he gets his and UNM’s fourth straight Mountain West Title. Greenwood has been through the best of times and the worst of times as a Lobo.
“Winning championships, to losing coaches, to losing players, and losing all kinds of different things. Fortunately enough it’s been a really positive experience all four years. So I have never questioned, I mean, it’s probably been the best decision I have made,” said Greenwood.
Coach Neal spoke very highly of both Deshawn and Greenwood, but he can’t help but praise Greenwood, a player he has seen grow over the past four years at UNM.
“You know, what ever happens the rest of this year will have nothing to do with the legacy he has left on this program,” said Neal.
The Lobos finish out the conference schedule on Friday against Wyoming. Tip off for that on will be at 6 p.m.
