ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- Fidel Maldonado Jr. is coming off of a tough draw in May, in a fight that he along with his team thought he had won. He now just has to move on and get more victories in the win column. He did learn something though in his last fight and hopes to implement his new found knowledge in his future fights.

“Keep my calm more and not let his dirty tactics, or anyone’s dirty tactics get to me. I was letting it get to me a little bit too much. I just need to keep my calm, go in there, and by all means get the win,” said Fidel Maldonado Jr.

Fidel will be taking on Pipino Cuevas Jr. on July 9th at the Santa Ana Center. This will be the first time in 2 years that the Atrisco Kid has fought in Albuquerque. His opponent is the son of former World Champion Pipino Cuevas, and while Cuevas Jr. isn’t as accomplished as his father, Fidel can’t take him lightly.

“He has power in his hands, cause i think he is 17 and 16, but he has a lot of knockouts. So, got to go in there and fight smart, I cant go in there careless,” said Maldonado Jr.
