ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Anthony Kim just graduated high school, and in his final year he led Albuquerque Academy to their 22nd state championship. Kim holds three state records: 100 meter Butterfly, 100 meter backstroke, and 200 Meter Freestyle. Kim qualified for the two events in 2016 Olympic Trials, which are in Omaha Nebraska next week.

He will be hitting the pool for the 100 meter backstroke on Monday morning, as Kim clocked a 48.38 time to get in. He will then be competing in the 200 Meter Backstroke on Thursday morning, after clocking a 1:45.22 to get to the trials. Just making it to this stage, and getting the experience is a dream come true for Kim.

“I mean I am going to give it everything I have got. I have been training for this my whole life basically. I have been looking forward to this weekend for a long time. It’s always been a goal for me to go to the Olympic Trials,” said Anthony Kim.

“He will be swimming in the same pool with Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin, and Ryan Lochte. Just a great experience for him getting ready to head off to college,” said Charger Club Aquatics Coach Tom Cyprus.

Kim committed to one of the top swimming programs in the country, Texas A&M, and the 18-year-old will see the nation’s best talent at the trials. He of course hopes to make the team, but understands he still has some time to grow and learn in college.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to be an Olympian. It’s hard, you have to put in a lot of work and there is a lot of fast kids out there. I know I am not the best yet, but I will try my best to be someday,” said Kim.

He believes his best shot at the Olympic Games is in 2020. He will have four years of college under his belt, experienced, and at 22 in his prime.
