ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)- Garrett Adcock has voluntarily ended his senior season after doctors and coaches have told him playing wouldn’t be the best choice. Adcock has had two concussions this year and after examination has chosen not to finish out his senior season and end his college career.

“Football is a great sport but it is a dangerous sport and that is the reality of it. There is no one to blame, things happen and it’s just like life things happen. So, you just have to make the most of it and move on,” said UNM’s Garret Adcock.

He attained his first concussion in practice earlier this season and becoming more prone to concussions, Adcock received another blow to the head in the Boise State game. Adcock is the only second year law student in the NCAA’s FBS ranks, and had already started four of UNM’s six games at Right Tackle this season.

He finishes his Lobo career with 30 games played and 23 starts.  Adcock has been a key component on this offensive line that in all four of his seasons has finished in the top 10 in the NCAA is rushing. While the senior is out of the pads, he will not be far from the field. Adcock’s seniority and knowledge of this Lobo offense will be key for an O-Line that is now even less experienced with Garrett gone.

“You know he is going to continue to be that. We are certainly going to maximize everything that he can bring to us for the rest of the season from a coaching perspective,” said UNM Head Football Coach Bob Davie.

“I mean yeah, it would be easy to just kind of disappear and not really show my face around here again, but it’s not the right thing to do. The right thing to do is to keep coaching these guys and try and help out as much as I can, because they have invested a lot in me. I have given a lot to the program, but they have given a lot to me too, so I owe that to them to be around,” said Adcock.

The Lobos take on Louisiana Monroe next on Saturday that game starts at 7 pm in Albuquerque and will also be shown on the Root Network.
