ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Justin Lucero looks and acts like an ordinary 10-year-old. He loves football, a huge Steelers fan, and his favorite subject in school is recess. There is one thing that sets Justin apart from the other kids, and that is that he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 3.

“We were just devastated. To me it felt like an early sentence. You see kids in the hospital constantly getting antibiotics, pick lined, it’s a nightmare,” said Justin’s mother Ruth.

Justin is a fighter though he has never let this hold him back in life. He has been playing football since the age of seven and his parents believe that it has had a very positive effect on his health. Justin is one of the best players on his team, and he is not afraid of the spotlight.

The Lucero’s have started a foundation to help raise money for Cystic fibrosis called “Justin’s A Team”, and they have already raised $1,500 in a charity walk this year. They hope to raise more money on May 2^nd, as they have partnered up with Primetime Athletics to have a Cystic Fibrosis awareness game. It will be a purple out event, as that is the color for Cystic Fibrosis. They will be selling T-shirts for $10 and auctioning off a football signed by the Duke City Gladiators. All the proceeds will go to Cystic Fibrosis and the Justin’s A Team Foundation.

“Everybody is actually raising money for me, and I think that is just amazing”, said Justin.
