ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Jarrin Solomon knows how to compete at a high level. The two time Olympian and bronze medalist has also been to seven Track and Field World Championships.

The La Cueva grad and former Lobo is ready for his next challenge and that will require human collisions. Solomon wants to play professional football whether it’s the NFL or CFL.

“I just always wanted to play football as long as I remember,” said Solomon. “I always had people tell me I should play football for years over years, guys who were in the NFL, guys who are currently in the NFL.”

Solomon played a variety of sports growing up including ice hockey, but he never played football.

“I’ve always been a physical guy even when I played soccer and ice hockey back in the day,” said Solomon.”You know I was always the guy known as the hitter on the team so I like contact.”

At the age of 30, Solomon is getting a late start on the sport.

“At some point there will be some guy at 30 or 31 years old,” said Solomon. “Maybe he comes from track or he comes from some other sport and he will make it in the NFL. So the way I see things and the way I have always seen things is, why not me?”

Solomon is well aware of the recent findings with head injuries and football and says it does not bother him.

“You know if I get in the league and play a few seasons, I think I will be alright,” said Solomon. “I am not really worried about the physicality of the game or the hits. I expect it and I know my body. I take care of my body.”

Solomon is in full workout mode and hopes an opportunity comes his way next spring. When talking about that possible opportunity he said, “I’m always looking for new stuff and new mountains and hills to climb so this is one of them.”
