ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico Hall of Honor class of 2016 was inducted at the Crowne Plaza in Albuquerque Friday night.

The Lobos NCAA National Champion Cross Country team went into the hall along with five others. Former Lobo women’s basketball coach Don Flanagan is in that group. Flanagan was joined by several of the players he coached during his time at New Mexico.

The players came from all over the country. One of the all time greats, Abby Garchek Jaramillo, came all the way from Racine, Wisconsin to see her former coach honored.

“We found out pretty late about him being inducted and a couple of us were like we have to make it,” said Garchek.

Flanagan has more wins than any coach at New Mexico with 340. He was head coach of the Lobos from 1995 to 2011.

During that time Flanagan had 11 consecutive win seasons, eight consecutive 20 win seasons and seven NCAA Tournament appearances.

“It’s nice to be remembered in a positive way so I’m happy about it,” said Flanagan.

Going into the hall with Flanagan is former UNM volleyball player Jeanne Fairchild, track athlete Lisa Chaivario Henry, former football player Edward Stokes and the late public address announcer Stu Walker who received the Distinguished Service Award.
