ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After dominating minor league baseball, Alex Bregman got a chance to show all that he belonged in major league baseball. Bregman went 0-4 at the plate, giving the home town crowd a rise in the 6th inning when he connected on a pitch that went deep into right field.

With the bases loaded the ball didn’t have quite enough on it to leave the ball park. Bregman also had a fly out in his first at bat and struck out two other times in a 2-1 loss to the New York Yankees.

His best work came from third base where Bregman showed the skills of a veteran, fielding balls and making precision throws. Even before the first pitch, Bregman sounded confident about his ability to play on the major league level.

“Just do the hard work and preparation that was put in since I was little,” said Bregman. “I definitely believe that I can play here. I think that’s half the battle is believing that you belong.”

Bregman found out that he was going to be called up from triple A Fresno Sunday morning.

“I went crazy,” said Bregman. “I called my mom immediately. My mom started screaming. She was crying. My dad started screaming. He was so excited. My sister was crying. Everybody was so happy.”

Bregman will resume writing his story Tuesday.
