ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Carl Stujduhar dominated the stat line in the Mountain West. The tough play by the Lobo third baseman has earned him the Tony Gywnn Award as Mountain West Player of the Year.

Stajduhar was the conference triple crown winner this season, leading the MW in league play with a .421 batting average, 39 RBI and nine home runs. His slugging percentage was a league best .746.

Stajduhar is the sixth player in program history for the Lobos to snag Player of the Year honors. He is also first team all league and is joined by three other Lobos on the first team.

The man affectionately known as the, “Girth Quake,” Lobos catcher and designated hitter Chris DeVito slugged .670 in conference action, ranking second in the MW.

He also had the third-most RBI in the league at 32 with eight home runs, one short of the league-lead. Overall, he has totaled 141 bases this year, ranking 14th in the nation. Second baseman Jared Holley also led with his bat. He had 38 runs scored during league play to lead the Mountain West.

His .492 on base percentage was also a conference best. Holley had a thing for doubles, hitting 21 to place in the top 20 in the nation.

Sophomore pitcher Tyler Stevens was steady over 14 starts in cherry and silver and also made the all conference first team.

Outfielder and Pitcher Luis Gonzalez is a second team all Mountain West selection.

The Lobos start play in the Mountain West Tournament Thursday at 7 p.m. at Santa Ana Star Field.
