ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The season started with great optimism. Bob Davie and his Lobos noticed all of the talent they had on both sides of the football. A few big plays have made the difference between a 1-2 start that could have been 3-0. The Lobos took a two game losing skid into the bye week but, hope they have it all figured out as they prepare for their Mountain West opener against San Jose State Saturday.

“I think the field position piece of it has been our biggest problem and with that said, there is no one reason it has been that,” said head coach Bob Davie. “At times we haven’t punted the ball well. We didn’t cover a couple of punts well against a good returner. We gave up some big plays on defense.”

Coach Davie and the Lobos know what’s at stake in Saturday’s homecoming game.

“Absolutely there’s a lot of pressure on this game,” said Davie. “This is a huge game for us, playing a conference game at home Being 1-2, let’s not make any bones about it. With Boise State coming and Air Force in Dallas the next two. This is a huge game.”

The game will be the first at home for the Lobos in about a month.

As of Tuesday evening only 15,125 tickets had been sold. Fans interest may not be at it’s best right now with the Lobos being gone so long with two straight losses on their record. Players know winning cures all.

“We feed off the fans you know. The fans are not going to come to the game if they know the team is losing, said Lobos quarterback Lamar Jordan. “We put a lot on that this week. Like I said, we are just trying to put on a show, trying to get a w for the city.”

The Lobos and San Jose State have a 2 p.m. kickoff Saturday.
