ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In her first fight since losing the UFC bantamweight title, Holly Holm was outpunched by Valentina Shevchenko, losing a unanimous decision on national TV.

Holm was the favorite coming into the fight but couldn’t get things going. Her second consecutive loss drops her MMA record to 10-2. The previous loss came when she submitted by Miesha Tate in a fight she was about to win.

Holm now holds a professional MMA record of 10-2 after this Unanimous Decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko.

Holm looked loose, determined, and focused in the first round of this fight. It was a round of feeling each other out, but Holly landed a nice straight right that knocked down Valentina. Shevchenko, as expected, did get Holm into the clinch and did take her down, but in the first round Holly got out of it well and looked like she had the upper hand in this bout.

In the second round Shevchenko started to warm up and connected with multiple blows to Holm in the head and face. She picked apart the former Bantamweight champion and it looked like it raddled Holm.

Valentina went on to control the rest of this fight on the ground and in the stand up. Shevchenko played perfectly into Holm’s strengths by keeping the fight on their feet, but Holly just looked really flat for four rounds in this fight.

Shevchenko swayed the judges to a unanimous 29-26 decision win over Holly Holm.

“I knew that I had my hands full for this fight and when they offered it to me I didn’t want act like I didn’t know it was a very big challenge,” said Holly Holm right after the loss. “What can you do? I knew it was a competitive fight and I could have done more. I am disappointed in myself and I take nothing away from her she is very tough.”

The question now is what is next for Holly Holm? This loss definitely put a damper in her run back at the UFC Bantamweight Title, but as Holly does she remains positive.

“Just get back in and move forward, I know that I am capable of more. I think I just need to believe in myself a little more and I know I can do more than what I put in tonight. Valentina is really tough and it’s not like we didn’t know that. It’s not like I haven’t been taught the right things,” said Holm in the post-fight press conference. “It just all came down to my performance, and it wasn’t great tonight.”
