ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who pulled Albuquerque High football out of a 43 game losing streak has resigned due to a scheduling conflict.

Curtis Flakes has two jobs. His schedule changed at his main job as Public Allies New Mexico Director and did not allow time to coach football. Flakes leaves AHS after only two seasons. Both were 4-6 seasons that saw the Bulldogs establish a foundation of discipline.

Students at the school were excited about football again. The former Lobo football player’s successful first year run in which he squashed a 43 game losing streak brought recognition to the school from Sports Illustrated.

AHS Principal, Tim McCorkle hated to see his head coach leaves the program but, he understands.

“I want to publicly thank him for what he did for our school,” said McCorkle. “The one thing that he did was restore Bulldog football back into our school.”

Defensive Coordinator Tim Johnson has been promoted to interim head coach at Albuquerque High.
