ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The top ranked La Cueva Bears started the day with a perfect 9-0 record. That is now 1 and 8. Albuquerque Public Schools spokesperson Monica Armenta told KRQE News 13 Sports that the Bears will have to forfeit their last eight wins due to an academically ineligible player. Armenta would not say the players name but, KRQE News 13 Sports has learned that he is a senior.

There was an oversight in monitoring the player’s eligibility. The Bears will also have to give up their Metro Championship Title they won last week. The only victory now is the 11 to 2 defeat of Volcano Vista on Tuesday. La Cueva is the defending state champions of big school baseball and have won 7 of the last 12 titles.
